In the late spring of 2024, a dispute between two men in Biloxi, Mississippi, escalated to a fatal encounter. The argument involved 58-year-old Julius Cecil Taylor Jr. and 53-year-old Rodney Dabney. On May 30th, in the 2700 block of Fernwood Road, what began as a verbal altercation took a tragic turn. Taylor is reported to have gone into his residence to get a gun.
A struggle over the firearm ensued between the two men. In the course of the confrontation, both Taylor and Dabney sustained gunshot wounds. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found both men injured. They were both transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Rodney Dabney, a resident of the apartment complex where the shooting took place, succumbed to a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Following the incident, Julius Cecil Taylor Jr. received medical treatment for his injuries. Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken into custody by the Biloxi Police Department on June 5, 2024. Taylor was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Harrison County Detention Center, with his bond set at $1,050,000.
