In the late hours of a Monday evening in Edwards, Mississippi, the life of 21-year-old D'Aaron Kortez Carter, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 24, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Carter was a passenger in a vehicle on Willie V. Crump Lane when the car was ambushed. Three individuals, all dressed in black, unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the vehicle.
Investigators later recovered over 60 shell casings from the scene, a testament to the intensity of the assault.
Carter, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, was struck by a single bullet to his right torso. Despite the hail of bullets, no one else in the vehicle was injured. In a desperate attempt to save him, Carter was driven in a private vehicle to a hospital in neighboring Warren County. Tragically, his wound proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The assailants fled the scene in a silver Honda immediately after the shooting and have not yet been identified. The Edwards Police Department, leading the investigation, believes the attack was targeted. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of D’Aaron Kortez Carter, and the three suspects remain at large. Authorities are actively seeking information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
