On January 1, 2023, 19-year-old Don Sawyer, also known as David, was fatally shot outside a New Year's Eve party on Detroit's east side. The incident occurred near East Warren and East Outer Drive, where unknown suspects fired multiple rounds from a vehicle, striking Sawyer and injuring two others. The other victims were transported to a local hospital and were expected to recover.
