On the afternoon of January 2, 2023, Marquise Cortez Hall, a 31-year-old male, was fatally shot on Blackington Avenue in Flint, Michigan, marking the city's first homicide of the year. The shooting occurred just before 4 p.m., and Hall was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was a father and an entrepreneur, known for starting a basketball league in Bay City and his own clothing line.
Following the incident, a 30-year-old male suspect was apprehended by
police after a chase that went through parts of Mt. Morris and Flint Townships. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and lodged in the Genesee County Jail.
The investigation into Hall's death was handled by the Flint Major Case Unit. The suspect, identified as Jacoyee Wallace, was later charged in connection with the shooting. In November 2023, Wallace pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and a felony firearm charge. Under a plea agreement, he is expected to be sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in prison.
