In the afternoon hours of June 7, 2023, the life of 17-year-old Markii Jerrell Robinson, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Robinson was walking through an alley in the 1100 block of East Stockbridge Avenue at approximately 2:55 p.m. when he became the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. First responders found him with a critical gunshot wound to the head.
Despite immediate medical intervention by officers and paramedics, Robinson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 3:45 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting was promptly initiated by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. A key piece of evidence, a gray 2023 Hyundai Tucson with an Indiana license plate, was identified as the suspect vehicle. This vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was discovered later that same evening around 9:30 p.m. The case saw a significant development in August 2023 when a 15-year-old male was apprehended and charged with third-degree arson in connection with the burning of the suspect vehicle.
After a continued and thorough investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney's Office authorized charges against 23-year-old Raymond C. Moore, Jr. On October 15, 2025, Moore was charged with open murder and felony firearm. He was taken into custody two days later and was arraigned on October 20, 2025, at which time he was denied bond and remains in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
