On the evening of March 18, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the 1100 block of Cadillac Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan. When the sounds of the shots faded, 23-year-old Shaughqual Laqia Anderson, a Black/African American male, had been fatally wounded. He was privately transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest, but the injury proved too severe.
He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:13 p.m.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to reports of the shooting at around 10:43 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene on Cadillac Street, they discovered evidence of the violent encounter, including shell casings and a house struck by a stray bullet. The investigation into the death of Shaughqual Anderson was immediately launched, with detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division taking the lead.
In the days and weeks that followed, law enforcement officials appealed to the public for assistance in solving the homicide. They urged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward. Specifically, they requested that residents in the area check their home security systems, such as Ring doorbells, for any video footage that might have captured the events leading up to or following the shooting.
