Lakeshia Renae Smith, a 38-year-old woman, was tragically killed on June 20, 2023, in a motel room in Taylor, Michigan. Her life was cut short by an act of gun violence, leaving behind a grieving family and community. A certified nurse assistant working in hospice home care, she was known for her sweet and compassionate nature. She was a mother to three daughters and was an active and beloved member of her church community.
In the aftermath of the fatal shooting, a Taylor man, identified
as Lakeshia's boyfriend, was taken into custody. He reportedly alerted the police himself, admitting to the murder of his girlfriend. This led to his subsequent arrest and he has since been charged with premeditated murder in connection with her death.
Lakeshia was remembered as a woman with a radiant smile and a warm heart. Beyond her professional calling of caring for others, she was a creative spirit with a talent for decorating. Her faith was a central part of her life, evidenced by her involvement in her church's choir and praise dance team. She is survived by her three daughters, her mother, and her siblings.
