In the early hours of July 6, 2023, a dispute over dental work tragically escalated, leading to the death of 28-year-old Ahmad Nesserdine, a resident of Dearborn Heights. The Lebanese man was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head on the back porch of a home on Olmstead Street in Dearborn. Police were called to the residence at approximately 12:55 a.m. and discovered his body. The initial call to 911 was made by the son of the homeowner, who reported that his father had shot an intruder.
The homeowner, 53-year-old Zayed Albodour, was operating an illegal dental clinic out of the basement of his house. Nesserdine had sought treatment from Albodour for a root canal and veneers, procedures for which he paid about $100, as he could not afford traditional dental care. Following the dental work, Nesserdine experienced significant and persistent pain and had contacted Albodour seeking relief. According to Nesserdine's family, Albodour had instructed him to come to his home around midnight on the night of the shooting. It is believed that an argument erupted between the two men over the painful dental work, which culminated in the fatal shooting. Family members suggest that Nesserdine may have threatened to expose Albodour's illicit practice. Investigations later revealed that Albodour had previously been denied a dental license in Minnesota due to a lack of proper education.
Zayed Albodour, who is of Jordanian origin, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was initially charged with first-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. The investigation showed that the two men had been in contact via text messages and phone calls prior to the incident, indicating Albodour was aware Nesserdine was coming to his house that night. In April 2024, Albodour entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of second-degree murder and a felony firearm count. In May 2024, he was sentenced to 10 to 30 years in prison for the killing of Ahmad Nesserdine.
