On the evening of September 19, 2023, Hassan Mahmoud Salami, a 29-year-old Lebanese American man, was fatally shot in what authorities have described as a random act of violence. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a sushi restaurant on Ford Road in East Dearborn, Michigan. Salami, the owner of Lama Flowers, was leaving the restaurant with his fiancée and walking towards his car when they were confronted by assailants.
During the encounter, Salami was shot three times. The attackers stole his necklace, watch, and the keys to his Mercedes G-Wagon. His fiancée was not physically harmed during the robbery. Emergency services transported Salami to Corewell Health Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The shocking crime deeply affected the local community, where Salami was known as a kind and honest individual.
The day following the shooting, Dearborn police arrested two Detroit men, 29-year-old Lindsay Thurmond and 31-year-old Quenton Goston. Both were subsequently charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, and armed robbery. The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of a third suspect, Devon Travon Green, who was also charged with murder.
In March 2025, authorities announced a fourth arrest in connection with the case. Dawanne Midgett, a 35-year-old Detroit resident, was taken into custody based on new information uncovered by investigators. Midgett was charged with first-degree murder, firearm possession, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and being a fourth-time habitual offender. All four defendants face charges that could result in life imprisonment if convicted.
