On May 6, 1993, the Dearborn main post office became the scene of a tragic workplace shooting that claimed the life of 34-year-old Gary Montes, a male postal mechanic. The gunman was identified as Lawrence Jasion, a co-worker of Montes who had become disgruntled after being passed over for a promotion. Jasion arrived at the post office that morning with three handguns concealed inside a reinforced doughnut box.
In a sudden and violent outburst, Jasion opened fire, fatally wounding Montes.
