Jean Thomas Butchart, a 26-year-old transgender man from Belleville, Michigan, was fatally shot on August 4, 2023, in a park at Van Buren Estates mobile home park. Butchart, who had recently completed a degree in Environmental Studies and was working in water management, was known for his love of nature and was planning to return to school to earn a degree in science education.
