In the early morning hours of August 17, 2023, tragedy struck on the southwest side of Grand Rapids when 18-year-old Paul Anthony Pearson was shot. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Burton Street SW. Pearson was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy later confirmed that the young man's death was a homicide.
