On October 28, 2023, 16-year-old Desiree Leshay Childs was fatally shot while walking with a friend near the intersection of South Johnson Avenue and Menominee Road in Pontiac, Michigan. The incident occurred around 11:22 p.m., when Childs was struck in the chest by gunfire. She was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
