Ladonna Renee Cummings, a 50-year-old Black woman, was found with a gunshot wound on December 28, 2023. Rushed to Hurley Medical Center, every effort was made to give her another opportunity at life, but her injuries proved to be too severe, and she was pronounced dead.
Cummings’ life was one of complex and challenging chapters. Nearly two decades earlier, in 2005, she was on the other side of a murder case. A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, a crime that carried a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
