In the spring of 2024, a young man's life was cut tragically short in a burst of gunfire at a Melvindale intersection. Twenty-year-old Frederick Coleman of Detroit was found in the driver's seat of his vehicle on the evening of May 9th, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. in the area of Outer Drive and Seaway.
According to authorities, Coleman was stopped at the intersection when two individuals allegedly opened fire on his vehicle, ending his
life before fleeing the scene. The Melvindale Police Department responded to reports of the shooting and discovered the fatal outcome. The investigation that followed led to the identification and arrest of two suspects.
Taiwan Antonelli Cox Jr., 20, of Detroit, and Curtis Damon Harris, 17, of Ecorse, were later charged in connection with the fatal shooting. Both men face charges of first-degree murder and felony firearm. Following their arraignment, they were remanded to jail. The case progressed with a probable cause conference scheduled for July 22, 2024. In a later development, a third individual, Kyren Harris, was arrested in November 2024, suggesting a broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding Coleman's death.
