A loving father's remains are found along a highway 100 miles from his home
In September 2018, the life of 39-year-old David Carter, a devoted father from Melvindale, Michigan, came to a tragic and gruesome end. Carter, who worked at the Magna Seating Plant and volunteered with the Melvindale Junior Football League, was a beloved figure in his community, known for his dedication to his son, DJ. His sudden disappearance raised immediate concern among his family and friends when he failed to show up for work for three consecutive days.
The grim reality of his fate began to unfold on October 1, 2018, when a transportation worker discovered his lower torso and legs stuffed into a sleeping bag along Interstate 75 in Eagle Township, Ohio. The investigation into his disappearance then turned into a homicide case. As investigators delved deeper, the horrifying extent of the crime became apparent. Days later, on October 10, Carter's head was found in a duffel bag, also along I-75. An autopsy would later reveal that he had died from a single gunshot wound below his left ear. His upper torso and hands were discovered in a suitcase on October 16.
Suspicion quickly fell upon his girlfriend of six months, Tamera 'Tammy' Williams. Investigators found a large bloodstain and a gunshot hole in the mattress of Carter's apartment, where the front door had been left unlocked. Williams was initially arrested on October 5, 2018, but was released due to a lack of evidence at the time. Shortly after her release, Williams vanished. She is believed to have fled Detroit in mid-October, traveling by train to Chicago and then to New York.
In December 2018, a felony warrant was issued for Williams's arrest on charges of first-degree homicide, disinterring a dead body, and tampering with evidence. The U.S. Marshals Service has since elevated her to its 15 Most Wanted Fugitives list and is offering a substantial reward for information leading to her capture. Williams, who has a background in the medical field and as a travel agent, is considered armed and dangerous and has ties across the country. Authorities believe she may have received financial assistance to aid in her escape, and her mother has faced legal troubles for embezzlement. Despite numerous features on national television shows like 'Unsolved Mysteries' and 'America's Most Wanted,' Tamera Williams remains a fugitive, and the family of David Carter continues to await justice for his brutal murder.
