The Black / African American teenager, born on February 6, 2007, was a vibrant and cherished member of her community. An honor roll student and a dedicated cheerleader at University Preparatory Academy, she was known for her leadership and was affectionately called the 'Mama of the group' by her cheer sisters.
Her family described her as being 'full of life,' a young woman who was always smiling and brought joy to those around her.
On the evening of Saturday, May 18, 2024, Taylor attended a large block party on Manning Street. She had only been at the event for a short time when gunfire suddenly erupted. According to authorities, a group of armed males arrived at one of two parties being held on the block and engaged in a shootout with individuals from the other party. In the ensuing chaos, as she tried to flee the scene, Taylor was caught in the crossfire and fatally wounded.
After the shooting, Taylor was placed on life support for several days. Her family had to make the agonizing decision to let her go, and she passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The sudden and senseless loss of a young life on the verge of graduating high school sent shockwaves through her family and the wider community, who gathered for vigils and a funeral that drew over 800 people to celebrate her life.
As of late 2025, the investigation into Taylor Gladney's death is still active and ongoing. Law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Her family continues to seek answers and justice, hoping that someone with information will come forward to help investigators identify those responsible for the gunfire that ended a promising young life.
