In the summer of 2024, the life of Jennifer Ann Pilotto, a 38-year-old Caucasian woman from Columbiaville, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On August 9th, during a heated dispute at her home in Oregon Township, her live-in boyfriend, 40-year-old Micheal James Schocke, fatally shot her. In a harrowing final moment, Pilotto was on the phone with 911 dispatchers when Schocke reportedly uttered the words, 'Game over,' before firing the fatal shot.
The incident unfolded in the presence of
Pilotto's two children, who were initially barricaded in a bedroom with their mother as Schocke brandished a gun. They were eventually let out and instructed by their mother to flee to a nearby lake lot on the Holloway Reservoir. This act of maternal protection was one of her last. Pilotto succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Following the shooting, authorities promptly arrested Micheal James Schocke, who had previous ties to the Romeo area. He was charged with open murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The community and Pilotto's loved ones were left to grapple with the senseless violence that had taken a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
The legal process culminated in a jury trial in June of 2025. After a little over four hours of deliberation, the jury found Michael Schocke guilty of first-degree, premeditated murder and felony firearm charges. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring that Schocke will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the murder of Jennifer Pilotto.
