In the winter of 2023, the life of 15-year-old La’Ron Henderson was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. A student at Forest Park High School, the young Black male was fatally shot in an alley on January 25th, just a short distance from his school in the 4300 block of Liberty Heights Avenue. The incident occurred in the afternoon, less than an hour after classes had been dismissed for the day.
Family members, who described La’Ron as a six-foot-tall 'gentle
giant' and a 'gentle kid,' were thrust into a nightmare, their grief compounded by the way they learned of his death. Rather than receiving official notification from the school or the police, the family reportedly discovered the devastating news through posts circulating on social media. In their frantic search for answers, they rushed between the medical examiner's office and various hospitals, piecing together the horrific truth.
The Baltimore Police Department confirmed that La’Ron was a victim of gun violence and offered an $8,000 reward for information that could lead to a resolution in the case. However, despite their investigation and public appeals for assistance, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains an open wound for a family and a community still seeking justice for the loss of a young life.
