In the early afternoon of March 5, 2023, the life of Tavone Calvin Cotten, a 47-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. Baltimore County Police responded to a call for an assault in the 4100 block of Wilkens Avenue in the Arbutus area. Upon their arrival at approximately 12:15 p.m., they discovered Mr. Cotten suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting are still under investigation by homicide detectives. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to piece together the events that transpired on that Sunday.
Tavone Calvin Cotten, a native of Baltimore, was born on December 3, 1975. He was a dedicated father to his three sons: Terell, Tyrone, and Taj. After attending Baltimore City Public Schools, he went on to earn his GED through the Job Corps program. He was employed as a deli clerk at a Giant Food Market. Known for his commitment to family, he had lovingly cared for his ailing father until his passing in the year prior to his own death. The community and his family are left awaiting answers as the search for those responsible for his death continues.
