On a Thursday morning in Baltimore, what began as a regular school day ended in tragedy for 20-year-old Breon Traquan Ennis. A student at Achievement Academy, Ennis was fatally shot on March 16, 2023. The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. outside an Eagle Mart gas station located in the 2300 block of East Northern Parkway.
Police officers from the Northeast District responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Ennis at the scene with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Ennis, a Black male, was enrolled in the Re-engagement Center at his school, a program designed to assist older students in earning their diplomas.
The death of Breon Traquan Ennis marked a grim statistic as the seventh student from Baltimore City Public Schools to be killed in a shooting that year. His mother, overwhelmed with grief, shared a heart-wrenching message with loved ones, expressing her disbelief and profound sorrow over the loss of her son.
In the wake of the shooting, homicide detectives from the Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ennis's death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible. To date, no suspects have been publicly named, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Breon Traquan Ennis.
