In the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Baltimore, Raquan Demetrius Ali Campbell, known affectionately as 'Ra-Ra,' was a popular 15-year-old African-American male who played Pop Warner football and was a student at Edmondson High School. He was the youngest of four brothers.
On the evening of December 1, 2010, tragedy struck. At approximately 5 p.m., police responded to a report of a serious shooting at the corner of South Payson and Pratt Streets in the Carrollton Ridge neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered Campbell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head and lower body. He was immediately transported to the Shock Trauma Center, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m. Why he was in that particular neighborhood remains a mystery to his family, and those who may have known have not come forward with information.
In the years that followed, Raquan's mother, Lystra Ali-Campbell, has tirelessly sought justice for her son. The case, however, has grown cold, with no new leads, tips, or arrests being made. She has made public appeals for anyone with information to come forward, expressing her desire for truth and closure for her family. Despite the passage of time and the lack of progress in the investigation, the family continues to honor his memory through memorials and vigils, holding onto hope that one day his killer will be brought to justice.
