In the pre-dawn hours of April 30, 2023, the quiet of a Cockeysville neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 4:55 a.m., Baltimore County police officers arrived at the intersection of Cranbrook and Halesworth roads to a grim discovery. On the sidewalk lay the body of 28-year-old Earl Samuel Bodkin Jr., a male resident of the area.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medics.
The initial investigation into the death of Earl Bodkin Jr. began with homicide detectives canvassing the area for evidence and seeking information from the public. The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting were not immediately clear, and authorities did not initially release any information about a potential suspect or motive. A month after the shooting, on May 31, 2023, Baltimore County detectives announced a significant development in the case. Following an investigation, they arrested 42-year-old Larry Edwards in connection with the fatal shooting. Edwards was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Authorities have not publicly disclosed if there was a known relationship between Edwards and Bodkin Jr.
