On the evening of May 10, 2023, Darren Lamar Shipley, a 29-year-old male, was shot and killed in Baltimore, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. on the 4500 block of Wakefield Road in the Northwest District. Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting and found Shipley at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics transported him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries later that day.

Northwest District shooting detectives took charge of the homicide investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 27-year-old Kedric Green of Baltimore. On July 31, 2023, detectives arrested Green and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Shipley's death.

In July of the following year, Kedric A. Green pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime. Prosecutors stated that Green had shot Shipley through his car window. Though Green's defense attorney argued that he acted in self-defense, claiming Shipley also had a firearm, Green was sentenced in September 2024. A judge sentenced him to life in prison, suspending all but 40 years. Green also received a concurrent 20-year sentence for the firearm charge, with the first five years to be served without the possibility of parole. Upon his eventual release, he will be subject to five years of supervised probation.
