On June 18, 2023, Father's Day, a tragic incident occurred in Damascus, Maryland, resulting in the death of 32-year-old James Joel Austin. The shooting took place in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road, where Austin was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
