On June 18, 2023, Father's Day, a tragic incident occurred in Damascus, Maryland, resulting in the death of 32-year-old James Joel Austin. The shooting took place in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road, where Austin was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the lifesaving efforts of first responders, Austin succumbed to his injuries.
