In the early hours of a summer morning in Baltimore, Maryland, a young man's life was cut short by violence. On July 22, 2023, 21-year-old Khalil Rukim McCray was shot on the 5400 block of Park Heights Avenue. The circumstances immediately following the shooting remain unclear, but McCray was not found by police at the scene of the crime.
Sometime after the shooting, at approximately 1:16 a.m., officers from the Baltimore Police Department's Northwest District were dispatched to a local
hospital. They were responding to a report of a walk-in shooting victim. Upon their arrival, they discovered Khalil McCray suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at the hospital.
The Baltimore Police Department's Homicide detectives are actively investigating the case. Preliminary investigations have determined that McCray was on Park Heights Avenue when he was shot by an assailant who has yet to be identified. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the suspect or suspects remain at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact either the Homicide detectives or the Metro Crime Stoppers hotline.
