In the late afternoon of July 27, 2023, tragedy struck in the Southern District of Baltimore. Jason Scott Franey, a 41-year-old white male, was found suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds in the 3400 block of Potee Street. The call came in around 4:45 p.m., a time when the day should have been winding down, but for Franey, it was brutally cut short.
Responding officers discovered Franey with gunshot wounds to his back and lower body.
Medics arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma unit. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jason Scott Franey succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. His death was ruled a homicide, adding to the city's grim statistics of lives lost to violence.
Homicide detectives with the Baltimore Police Department were notified and promptly took control of the investigation. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
