In the quiet town of Easton, Maryland, a verbal dispute on a summer evening escalated into a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 55-year-old Ty Brooks-Bey. On the evening of August 7, 2023, police responded to a report of a gunshot victim and found Brooks-Bey lying in the grass near Blake Street with gunshot wounds. Despite the life-saving efforts of police and paramedics, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigations into the shooting revealed a complex series of events
that began with an argument between Brooks-Bey and individuals in a Range Rover. After the initial confrontation, Brooks-Bey reportedly left the area, only to return later armed with a shotgun to confront the same individuals. A second, brief verbal altercation ensued, culminating in the driver of the Range Rover shooting Brooks-Bey through the passenger side window. The vehicle, accompanied by a Hyundai sedan, then fled the scene.
In the days and weeks that followed, law enforcement made a series of arrests in connection with the homicide. On August 17, police apprehended 22-year-old Daseir A Cornish of Denton and Raheem Green of Cambridge. Cornish, identified as the driver of the Range Rover, was charged with first-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and firearm use in a violent crime. Green, the driver of the Hyundai, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to first and second-degree murder, accused of assisting Cornish in abandoning the Range Rover and fleeing the area.
The investigation continued, leading to a third arrest in October. Dana Wilson, a 59-year-old from Easton, was taken into custody on charges of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, altering physical evidence, and obstructing and hindering a police officer. Authorities alleged that Wilson entered the active crime scene and removed a cell phone that had been dropped by Cornish. All three suspects were taken to the Talbot County Detention Center.
