In the summer of 2018, the life of 23-year-old Jorian Travon Edwards was cut short in a fatal shooting in his hometown of Easton, Maryland. On the evening of July 23, police responded to a call and discovered Edwards on a trail near Tubman Drive, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries.
In the immediate aftermath, authorities reported that three male suspects were seen fleeing the scene of the crime.
The investigation into the homicide led to the arrests of Dionysus Rodnell Butler, Jr., Jawuan Blake, and Terrence Conway. The prosecution's case revealed that the three men had arranged to meet with Edwards under the guise of selling him a firearm. The actual intention, however, was to rob him. During this encounter, Edwards was shot and killed. Investigators found a 9mm shell casing and $300 in cash near his body.

Evidence presented at trial included security footage of Butler purchasing ammunition weeks before the shooting. During a police interview that was played for the jury, Butler initially implicated Jawuan Blake as the shooter. Ultimately, a jury in the Circuit Court for Talbot County found Dionysus Rodnell Butler, Jr. guilty of multiple offenses, including felony murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The court proceedings established that the fatal shooting of Jorian Edwards was the result of a robbery that had been planned by Butler and his accomplices.
