In the early morning hours of August 20, 2023, the quiet of a Crisfield, Maryland neighborhood was shattered by the discovery of a local man's violent death. Thirty-four-year-old Kevin Lamont Jackson, a Black male, was found deceased in the driver's seat of his car, which was parked off the road in the 100 block of Somers Cove. It was a Crisfield Police officer on a routine patrol who happened upon the vehicle shortly before 2:30 a.m. and found Mr.
Jackson suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of Mr. Jackson was quickly handed over to the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit at the request of the Crisfield Police Department. Investigators and forensic technicians descended upon the scene, securing a search warrant for the vehicle and beginning the painstaking process of collecting evidence. The case drew in additional resources from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland Gun Center, and the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office, all lending their support to the ongoing investigation. An autopsy was ordered to be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
Despite the multi-agency effort, the investigation into Kevin Lamont Jackson's death has been met with significant challenges. As of late 2025, the case remains unsolved, a source of continued pain for his family who remembers him as a devoted father. His mother had reportedly worried for his safety in Crisfield and had urged him to leave the area. To date, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been officially named. Law enforcement officials have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward. In their search for answers, police have identified a person of interest captured on surveillance footage walking in the Somers Cove area shortly after the shooting. The individual, seen wearing a white tank top and dark shorts, remains a key focus for investigators who hope their identification will provide the missing piece to solving this tragic puzzle.
