In the South Clifton Park neighborhood of Baltimore, the life of 28-year-old David Boykin, a male rapper known as President Davo, was cut short on October 6, 2023. Boykin was sitting on a porch on Cliftwood Avenue when an assailant emerged from an alley and fired multiple shots, inflicting fatal wounds. First responders found him unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The investigation into Boykin's murder led Baltimore police to 27-year-old Earl Lee.
Surveillance footage from the area captured a getaway vehicle which was traced back to Lee as the registered owner. Authorities tracked the car using license plate readers and cameras. A significant break in the case came when Lee drove his car to a scheduled appointment with his probation officer on November 8, 2023. The Baltimore Regional Auto Theft Task Force was waiting and took him into custody.
During his arrest, police discovered a loaded handgun in Lee's vehicle. After being read his Miranda rights, Lee confessed to the shooting death of Boykin. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and several gun violations. In October 2024, a court found Earl Lee guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and firearm possession with a felony conviction. A judge sentenced him to life in prison plus an additional 21 years. During the sentencing, the court heard about the deep and lasting trauma inflicted upon Boykin's family, including his three young children.
