In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening, a father's visit to his own father's home in Olney, Maryland, ended in his death, allegedly at the hands of his son. Michael Wayne Stull, a 57-year-old male from Douglas, Georgia, was in Olney to help his father move back into his residence on Mount Olney Lane following rehabilitation from a stroke.
It was within this family home that the fatal incident unfolded on October 7, 2023.
Around 8:24 p.m., Montgomery County police received a call reporting a shooting at the residence. Upon arrival, officers learned that a suspect, identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Marquis Stull, was inside the house and armed. The initial information also indicated that a shooting victim, Michael Wayne Stull, was also inside. Nicholas lived at the home with his grandparents.
Given the gravity of the situation with an armed individual inside, a SWAT team was dispatched to the scene. Upon entering the home, they found Michael Wayne Stull deceased from a gunshot wound. His son, Nicholas, was also discovered with a non-life-threatening, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the incident, Nicholas Marquis Stull was taken into custody by the SWAT officers. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injury. Authorities later charged him with first-degree murder, second-degree assault, and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with his father's death. Michael Stull was an employee of the City of Douglas's Customer Care department, and the city hall was closed on the following Monday to mourn his passing.
