In the early hours of December 3, 2023, the life of 28-year-old Phillip Brown was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting that also claimed the life of another 28-year-old man, Michael Saffold. The incident unfolded around 2:50 a.m. on the 3600 block of Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, where both men were found inside a home. Brown was a Black male.
The Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide, which led them to identify 28-year-old Lamonte
Sherman of Baltimore as the primary suspect. Investigators believe that a dispute preceded the fatal shootings. On January 23, 2024, at approximately 8:35 a.m., authorities located and arrested Sherman in the 1500 block of Wadsworth Way. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility.
Lamonte Sherman has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime for his alleged role in the deaths of Phillip Brown and Michael Saffold. A trial for Sherman was scheduled to take place on October 10, following two prior postponements. The prosecution had previously offered Sherman a plea deal that would have resulted in a 60-year prison sentence with five years of probation, which he rejected.
