Delondre Levert Sawyer, a 35-year-old man, tragically lost his life in February 2024. On the morning of February 8, Montgomery County Police discovered his body in a wooded area off Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Initially, there were no obvious signs of trauma, but an autopsy later revealed that Sawyer had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head, ruling his death a homicide.
The investigation determined that the shooting had actually occurred the day prior, on February 7.
Detectives pieced together the events leading to Sawyer's death, concluding that he was shot while sitting in the driver's seat of his own 2013 gold Honda Accord. After the shooting, his body was moved from the vehicle and left in the woods where it was later found. His car was subsequently stolen. Surveillance footage captured the Honda Accord at a Sheetz gas station on Progress Way in Gaithersburg after the murder. The vehicle was later recovered by police in Germantown, on Breezedale Lane.
The investigation led to the identification of three suspects from Gaithersburg: 36-year-old Quinnton Eric Brown, 26-year-old DeAngelo McRoy, and 24-year-old Alicia Carson-Brown. In early March 2024, authorities secured arrest warrants and took all three into custody. Brown and McRoy faced charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Carson-Brown was initially charged with accessory after the fact, which was later amended to include first-degree murder, armed robbery, use of a firearm in a felony, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. All three were held without bond.
As the case proceeded through the legal system, Alicia Carson-Brown pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. According to charging documents, she admitted to being in the vehicle, hearing a loud 'boom,' and seeing blood. Following a 12-day trial in October 2025, a jury convicted DeAngelo McRoy of first-degree murder, armed carjacking, armed robbery, and use of a firearm in a felony. He faces a sentence of life in prison plus 70 years, with his sentencing scheduled for April 28, 2026. The trial for the third co-defendant, Quinnton Brown, is scheduled to take place in June 2026.
