On October 25, 1993, the skeletal remains of Wayne Calvin Griffith, a 43-year-old man, were discovered in an unincorporated area of Palm Beach County, Florida. His body was found by survey workers in a wooded area near Southern Boulevard and State Road 7. At the time, the remains were unidentified, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office took them to the Medical Examiner's Office. It was determined that Griffith's death was a homicide, but without identification, the investigation faced significant challenges and remained a cold case for many years.
It wasn't until May 11, 2020—nearly 27 years after his death—that authorities were able to identify the remains using DNA technology. The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification matched Griffith's remains to a reference sample provided by his family through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Prior to this, Wayne Griffith had been reported missing by his family in Ashtabula, Ohio, on October 1, 1993. He had traveled to Florida for reasons that are still unclear, and his disappearance left his family in Ohio without answers for decades.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit is still actively investigating Griffith's death and urging anyone with information to come forward.
