On the evening of the Fourth of July, a road rage incident escalated into a fatal encounter for Christopher Patrick Moore II, a 36-year-old man from Taneytown, Maryland. The altercation began on Maryland Route 140 and spilled onto Bear Run and Runnymede roads just after 10 p.m. Moore and another man, identified as 20-year-old Davon Joseph Dabbs, pulled their vehicles over and engaged in a physical fight.
The situation took a turn when Moore's fiancée arrived at the scene and witnessed
the assault. In an attempt to de-escalate the confrontation, she announced that she had a legally owned handgun. However, this had the opposite effect, as Dabbs then allegedly charged at her, leading to a struggle over the weapon. During the struggle, Dabbs was shot in the leg.
Ultimately, Dabbs gained control of the firearm and is accused of striking Moore's fiancée in the face multiple times, causing a broken jaw and other injuries. He then allegedly fired the gun multiple times, striking his own 26-year-old passenger in the hand and shooting Moore twice in the chest. Christopher Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends and fellow service members remembered Moore, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Maryland Army National Guard and was a volunteer firefighter, as a selfless and caring person who was devoted to his young daughter.
Davon Dabbs was arrested at his home in Taneytown on Saturday, July 6. He has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault. Following his arrest, Dabbs waived his right to a bail review hearing and remains in custody.
