On a late summer evening in Baltimore, Maryland, the life of 37-year-old George Edward Massey III was cut short by an act of gun violence. The incident occurred on September 21, 2024, in a parking lot situated on the 5100 block of Park Heights Avenue. Massey and several other individuals were gathered in the rear of the lot when a silver GMC Terrain abruptly entered and stopped near the group.
Two men emerged from the vehicle, one in a white t-shirt and the other, later identified as
Keith Morris, in dark clothing. The man in the white t-shirt announced a robbery, and Morris allegedly produced a handgun. Witnesses reported that Morris immediately shot Massey. The second suspect, identified as Karim Abdul, also began shooting with a handgun. During the exchange of gunfire, Morris was also struck.
Following the shooting, Morris transported himself to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. Upon his discharge on September 25, he was taken into custody by the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit for questioning. After being read his Miranda rights, Morris initially provided a fabricated account of the events, claiming to be the sole victim of the shooting.
However, he later confessed to his active participation in the incident. He admitted to arriving with Abdul in the silver GMC Terrain and to opening fire with weapons that had been stored in the vehicle. Morris also admitted to possessing a revolver both during and after the shooting. Video footage from the scene appeared to capture him dropping the weapon in the street following the event.
Keith Morris, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and other related firearm and conspiracy charges in connection to the fatal shooting of George Massey III. A hearing in the Baltimore City Circuit Court was scheduled for April 2025. The prosecution indicated they were awaiting DNA analysis and reviewing footage from over 35 body-worn cameras. At the time of the hearing, a plea deal had not been offered. The legal proceedings for Karim Abdul are not detailed in the available information.
