In the late hours of March 10, 2024, the life of 25-year-old Deshawn L. Linton, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short by gun violence in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident unfolded in the 4300 block of North 60th Street, at a building that was reportedly being used as an illegal nightclub and a venue for gambling activities.
On that particular night, Linton was present at a gathering where, according to witnesses, people were engaged in a game of craps.
The activities within the unlicensed establishment were even being livestreamed on Facebook. It was in this setting that the fatal shooting occurred. When police and emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Linton suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. The Milwaukee Police Department subsequently classified his death as a homicide.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators began piecing together the events of that night. Inside the building, they discovered scales, remnants of suspected marijuana, and a firearm, painting a clearer picture of the environment in which the tragedy took place. Witnesses confirmed to officers that they had been gambling with Linton before the shooting. In the wake of the tragedy, Linton's loved ones have spoken out against the proposed legitimate business, Power Lounge & Grill, that was slated to open at that location, expressing their pain and opposition at a city hearing. His family has also initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help with burial expenses.
