At the scene, they discovered 26-year-old Tommy Lewis, a Black male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to OU Medical Center but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Another man, 21-year-old Dajaun Davis, was also wounded in the same incident but had arrived at the hospital on his own.
Davis was treated for his injuries and later released.
For months, the case remained without an arrest, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over the violent encounter. The initial investigation provided few leads, and the community was left seeking answers. The break in the case came on October 12, 2023, with the arrest of 24-year-old Ashle Gilbert on suspicion of first-degree murder. The investigation revealed a complex story that began with Gilbert bringing her child to Lewis's home for him to babysit while she engaged in sex work. An argument erupted between Gilbert and Lewis, prompting her to call an associate, Kameron Jenkins, for assistance. When Jenkins arrived, the confrontation escalated, leading to the shooting that claimed Lewis's life.
Following the shooting, Gilbert and Jenkins fled to Texas. The story took another dark turn when, on October 4, 2023, Jenkins was involved in a separate incident where he shot a Cleveland County deputy. He was later found deceased. With Gilbert's arrest, a clearer picture of the tragic events that led to the death of Tommy Lewis began to emerge, finally offering a path toward resolution for a case that had remained unsolved for several months.
