In a quiet neighborhood in Verdigris, Oklahoma, the life of six-year-old Bryson Bryce Collier McCaslin was tragically cut short on July 20, 2023. The young male was a victim of a devastating triple murder-suicide orchestrated by his own mother, 39-year-old Brandy McCaslin. The horrific events of that day also claimed the lives of Bryson's two siblings: his 11-year-old sister, Noelani 'Noe' McGee, and his 10-month-old brother, Billy Jacobson.
The tragic chain of events began to unfold
during what was supposed to be a supervised visit. A woman arrived at Brandy McCaslin's home with one of the children, only to be confronted by a volatile and armed mother. McCaslin took the child and then held the woman and her two other children hostage in the garage. In a desperate bid for help, the captive woman managed to set off fireworks, which attracted the attention of a passing Verdigris police officer. While the hostage and her children were able to escape, a tense three-hour standoff with law enforcement ensued.
As negotiations with Brandy McCaslin proved fruitless and no response was heard from within the residence, officers made the difficult decision to enter the home. Inside, they were met with a scene of unimaginable horror. The bodies of Bryson, Noelani, and baby Billy were discovered, all having been shot by their mother. Brandy McCaslin was also found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation later confirmed the incident as a triple murder-suicide.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, it came to light that there had been prior concerns regarding Brandy McCaslin's mental health. The father of the youngest child, Billy Jacobson, had previously sought emergency custody due to her instability.
