In the late summer of 2023, the life of 40-year-old Jordan Nicole Pyle Cannon, a dedicated Cleveland County Sheriff's deputy, was tragically cut short. On August 30, 2023, in her Oklahoma City home, a heated argument with her husband, Vaughn Cannon, also a Cleveland County deputy, escalated to a fatal conclusion. The altercation ended when Vaughn Cannon shot his wife multiple times.
Present in the house at the time of the shooting was Jordan's son.
Awakened by the sound of gunshots and screaming, he bravely called 911 to report the incident. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Jordan Pyle Cannon deceased inside the residence. Vaughn Cannon remained at the home and was taken into custody. Body camera footage from the responding officers captured the tense moments leading up to his arrest.
Following the investigation into his wife's death, Vaughn Cannon was charged with first-degree murder. Initially, he entered a plea of not guilty, a move that disappointed Jordan's grieving family who had hoped he would take responsibility for his actions. However, in September 2024, Vaughn Cannon changed his plea to guilty.
The legal proceedings concluded in December 2024, when Vaughn Cannon was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife. The sentencing brought a close to a painful chapter for the family of Jordan Pyle Cannon, who remembered her as a woman with a promising career in law enforcement ahead of her and a deep love for her children.
