In a quiet Yukon-area home, the life of 35-year-old Mary Bishop was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. On the afternoon of February 5, 2024, police were called to a residence on Hollyrock Court, a neighborhood that sits within Oklahoma City limits but carries a Yukon address. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Mary Bishop and 74-year-old Rophy Charles Bishop in a bedroom.
Investigators believe that Rophy Bishop shot and killed Mary before
turning the weapon on himself. The two were identified as husband and wife. This violent act marked the seventh homicide in Oklahoma City for the year 2024.
Further investigation into Rophy Bishop's background revealed a man with a significant and troubling criminal history. His past convictions were extensive, including felonies for failing to register as a sex offender, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, first-degree rape, forcible sodomy, lewd acts or proposals to a child, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He also had a misdemeanor conviction for domestic abuse. While the motive behind the final, fatal incident remains part of the ongoing investigation, his past painted a portrait of a man familiar with violence and the legal system. No other suspects were identified, and no arrests were made as the perpetrator was deceased at the scene.
