In the spring of 2024, a dispute over a stolen vehicle tragically cut short the life of Randy Lee Mills Jr., a 36-year-old male from Oklahoma City. On the afternoon of May 21, 2024, police were called to the 7300 block of NW 10th Street where they discovered Mills deceased in the street from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators learned that he had been chased down before being fatally shot.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a conflict between Mills and another man, Mario
Mason, aged 26. According to reports, Mills had sold Mason a stolen car in March of that year. Just two days after being released from rehab in May, the fatal confrontation occurred. A witness to the event told police that Mason had accused Mills of selling him the stolen car and demanded his money back. Mason then produced a firearm, causing Mills to back away and then turn to run. Mason proceeded to shoot Mills multiple times in the back.
Law enforcement quickly identified Mario Latrael Mason as the suspect, and he was taken into custody on May 23, 2024. He was subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of First Degree Murder and Carrying or Possessing a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. In April 2025, an Oklahoma County jury found Mario Mason guilty of the murder of Randy Mills. Following the guilty verdict, Mason agreed to a life sentence and waived his right to appeal.
