In a tragic turn of events on a Monday morning, 43-year-old Catalina Jimenez lost her life in a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded just after 8 a.m. outside a residence on Wildwood Road as she was preparing to pick up a coworker for their carpool. Her estranged husband, 51-year-old Manuel Alaniz, approached in his vehicle, blocking her car before exiting and firing two shots into the driver's side where she sat, fatally wounding her.
Following the shooting, Alaniz moved toward the
passenger side of the vehicle where Jimenez's coworker was seated. In a moment of terror, the coworker managed to escape the vehicle unharmed. After the coworker fled, Alaniz turned the gun on himself, taking his own life at the scene. Law enforcement later confirmed the incident was a murder-suicide. Fortunately, the couple's young child, who was inside the home at the time of the shooting, was not physically harmed.
Investigations into the tragedy revealed a troubled history between Jimenez and Alaniz, marked by domestic-related incidents. Court documents showed that Alaniz had been arrested in November 2023 on two counts of domestic abuse by strangulation against Jimenez. In response to this, Jimenez had sought and was granted a protective order against him, which was still active at the time of her death. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called to assist the Logan County Sheriff's Office in processing the crime scene and delving deeper into the circumstances that led to the devastating outcome.
