In the heat of an August afternoon in Oklahoma City, tragedy struck on a busy street, forever altering the lives of those involved. On August 20, 2024, 17-year-old G’Rico Hutcherson, a Black male, was walking with another teenager in the 1200 block of NE 23rd Street. It was approximately 1:45 p.m. when the sound of gunfire shattered the daytime calm. When police arrived, they found G’Rico lying in a parking lot near the road; he had been fatally shot.
