In the spring of 2023, the life of a Black/African American teenager from Tacoma, Washington, was tragically cut short. Sixteen-year-old Isaiah Mullens Jr., a male known to his loved ones as "Zay," was fatally shot on the evening of April 5th. The incident took place at the Monterra Apartments on 112th Street East in Parkland, a community just south of Tacoma.
