On a tragic afternoon in Tacoma, Washington, the life of 41-year-old Dennis Parker, a Caucasian male, came to an abrupt and violent end. In the days preceding October 23, 2023, Parker had been exhibiting troubling behavior at the Lakeside Landing Apartments, with multiple reports of him banging on doors and walls. The situation had escalated to the point that police were contacted on October 22 regarding a disturbance where Parker was reportedly armed with a knife.
The following day, the
unsettling behavior continued. A female resident, alarmed by Parker once again banging on her door and walls, contacted her 31-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Jadwick Lynch. Lynch arrived at the apartment complex, and the situation tragically culminated in a fatal encounter on a nearby sidewalk. According to Lynch's statement to law enforcement, he and his girlfriend were leaving her apartment when Parker began moving towards them. Lynch claimed he asked Parker to stop before he shot him, stating he assumed Parker was holding something.
Tacoma police officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of South 12th Street shortly after 1 p.m., where they discovered Dennis Parker on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The Pierce County Medical Examiner would later rule his death a homicide.
In the wake of the shooting, Christopher Jadwick Lynch was taken into custody and has since been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with Parker's death. At his arraignment, a plea of not guilty, asserting self-defense, was entered on his behalf, and he is currently being held at the Pierce County Jail on a $1 million bail. However, the narrative of self-defense is being challenged by surveillance footage of the incident. According to detectives, the video shows that Parker did not advance towards Lynch, who was standing approximately five to eight feet away. The footage reportedly depicts Lynch, with his gun already drawn, taking a couple of steps backward before Parker falls to the ground, leading investigators to characterize the shooting as unprovoked.
