Bernal was found shot multiple times in his apartment located in the 4000 block of East McKinley Avenue. The incident occurred on a Monday afternoon, and the Tacoma police have been actively investigating the case since then. Despite their efforts, the authorities have not yet determined a clear motive for the murder, and the case remains unsolved.
