On December 3, 2023, 33-year-old Kristina T. Rouse was found deceased in her family's home in the Orchards area of Vancouver, Washington, the victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the lives of three other family members. The grim discovery was made after a concerned relative received a text message from Kristina's father, Stuart K. Rouse, stating that he had harmed others at the residence.
This prompted a welfare check that would uncover a devastating murder-suicide.
Upon their arrival at the home on Northeast 92nd Street, Clark County sheriff's deputies were unable to make contact with anyone inside. After several hours and with the use of a drone, authorities made the heartbreaking discovery of multiple deceased individuals within the house. Investigators determined that Stuart K. Rouse, 64, had shot and killed his wife, Cristina S. Rouse, 62; his brother, Ronald E. Rouse, 57; and his two adult daughters, Kristina, 33, and Melissa A. Rouse, 19, before taking his own life.
The tragedy sent ripples of shock and grief through the community and left surviving family members with shattered hearts. Family described Kristina and her mother and sister as some of the "kindest, most helpful, generous, sweetest human beings." Stuart Rouse, a Navy veteran, was said to have suffered from undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. As the perpetrator was deceased at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths. The incident was a grim reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and untreated mental health issues.
