In the quiet community of Puyallup, Washington, the life of 78-year-old William Stack came to a tragic end on April 2, 2024. A male resident of the town, Stack's death was the result of a gunshot wound to the head, an act the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office would later rule a homicide. This violent conclusion to his life unfolded within a residence near the 9900 block of 135th Street East.
Authorities discovered the circumstances of his passing following a welfare check at the
Alderra Apartments. Having not been seen for approximately three weeks, concern had grown for the elderly man who was known to be battling significant health issues. Inside the apartment, a somber scene awaited Pierce County deputies, revealing not one, but two deceased individuals.
The investigation into the deaths pointed towards a homicide-suicide. The second individual was identified as 49-year-old Xidong Stack, who was reportedly married to William Stack. The medical examiner determined that Xidong Stack's death was a suicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the chest.
With the deaths contained to the two men, and the primary suspect in William Stack's homicide being the individual who also took his own life, authorities have not pursued any other suspects. The case, while shedding light on a personal tragedy, left a somber note within the Puyallup community, marking the untimely end of a long life.
